Living in Kingston
Kingston is a small Oklahoma town of about 1,700 people on Highway 70, just minutes from Lake Texoma's most popular coves. It is the definition of lake-adjacent living: quiet streets, familiar faces, and Buncombe Creek as the weekend address.

The feel of the place
Minutes from the marina, home by dark
Kingston sits between Madill and Lake Texoma, about 10 miles from the Texas line. Residents describe a suburban-rural mix where most people own their homes and many are retirees, drawn by the lake's fishing and the town's quiet, rooted feel.
Golfers know Kingston for two courses: Buncombe Creek Golf Course and Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club. Everyone else knows it as the turn-off to the lake's favorite campgrounds and the striped bass fishing that made Texoma famous.
The town grows slowly and steadily as more people discover that lake life does not require giving up a real neighborhood, and the Marshall County Super Bowl, the annual Kingston-Madill football rivalry, is a social calendar event you will hear about from day one.
Schools
A district built around its kids
Kingston Public Schools serves roughly 1,200 students across elementary, middle, and high school campuses, with a strong graduation rate and close community support. The small district means coaches and teachers know every student by name.
The Kingston-Madill rivalry, known as the Marshall County Super Bowl, runs deep and makes Friday nights in the fall a genuine town gathering.
Parks and outdoor life
Buncombe Creek is the front yard
Buncombe Creek Campground, run by the Army Corps of Engineers, is the anchor: camping, RV sites, a boat ramp, and the Buncombe Creek Resort & Marina next door with cabins, rentals, a ship store, and a restaurant overlooking the water.
The lake's beaches, ramps, and coves are all a short drive from anywhere in town, and two golf courses keep non-boaters happily occupied year-round.
Location and commute
Ten miles from Texas, close to Durant
Kingston is about 15 minutes from Durant, roughly 90 miles north of Dallas, and about 10 miles from the Texas border, which makes it popular with people who work on either side of the Red River.
Oklahoma City is about two and a half hours away for big-city days, and Sherman and Denison are a pleasant drive south whenever the shopping list gets ambitious.
