Living in Pottsboro
Pottsboro is the southern gateway to Lake Texoma, a small town founded in 1878 when rancher James A. Potts gave the railroad a right-of-way across his land. Today its identity is the water: marinas, beaches, and a quieter way of living just eight miles from Sherman.

The feel of the place
The town motto says it best: "Come play, come stay"
Pottsboro's economy and social life orbit the lake. Highport Marina, with more than 800 wet slips in one of Texoma's few deep-water harbors, anchors the marina culture: slip rentals, boat and pontoon rentals, a fuel dock, and a waterfront grill where the sunset is part of the menu.
For full-time residents, life is close-knit and unhurried: hills and trees, uncongested roads, a small school district with devoted families, and the conveniences of Sherman just down the road. Weekenders and snowbirds mix easily with year-round locals.
Sandy beaches like Island View Park keep the town family-friendly in summer, and the lake's fishing reputation does the rest. Many residents will tell you they came for a weekend and never really left.
Schools
A small district with big loyalty
Pottsboro ISD serves about 1,400 students across Pottsboro Elementary, Pottsboro Middle, and Pottsboro High School. The Cardinals compete in UIL Class 3A, and the small district gives families that everyone-knows-everyone feeling.
Because the district is small, kids tend to play multiple sports and join multiple activities, which parents in bigger towns often envy. Sherman's schools and Austin College are a short drive when options are needed.
Parks and outdoor life
Beaches, coves, and launch ramps everywhere
Island View Park offers beach access, picnic tables, and a shallow shoreline made for slow afternoons with kids. The Little Mineral Arm and the creeks feeding the lake give kayakers and paddlers quieter water away from the big-boat wakes.
Lighthouse Marina, Little Mineral Marina, and Mill Creek Resort add to the town's collection of launch points, and Tanglewood Resort on the shore keeps golf and dining in the neighborhood.
Golf and getaway
Tanglewood: the course everyone talks about
Tanglewood Resort has perched above the lake since the 1970s, and its 18-hole championship course was designed by Arnold Palmer with architect Ralph Plummer. It runs nearly 7,000 yards of tree-lined fairways overlooking the water, and it is one of the most popular courses at the lake.
Beyond the golf, the resort is a favorite getaway with lakeside dining, pools, and panoramic lake views. Spend one afternoon there and you will understand why Tanglewood is the course everyone talks about.
